Can loving others save us? Jesus appears to answer "yes" to a Jewish Lawyer who asked Him: "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke 10:25-37) So how can this be reconciled with what Paul wrote to the Ephesian church that works cannot save us? Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
